Dinner Party

A few days ago I had a dinner party.  We have moved out to St. Johns.  Our friends had some trouble finding our new place.

We live in an apartment community. Near a car wrecking company. A series of buildings grouped together on a piece of land that features grassy knolls. This is a first for me.  My friend Amy looked distraught and hungry by the time she got here.  But after eating she graciously said ‘once you get inside it’s fine!’  That much is true.  Steve lives here, and once I get inside the apartment he hugs me.  I love that! And we now have two bedrooms and a living room.

For the dinner party I made shepard’s pie. This was a fancy one with wine and cinnamon inside. The layer of potatoes sort of turned to mush and it was so long in the oven that the cheese turned weird.  The taste was nice though.

My friend Emily brought a house warming gift.  Cream of wheat, an avocado, a pin wheel that you put in the garden, and half a bottle of wine.  We drank the wine at the party.  I used the avocado for the tacos Steve and I ate last night. And today I found a recipe on the side of the cream of wheat for ‘magic muffins’.  They were magic. Also, I put the pin wheel outside right off our back porch in the dirt.  I really think it spruces things up out there.  I was pleased with the gift and impressed with my resourcefulness.  Thank-you Emily!
